Alcorn to hold its 2nd property auction in July
Alcorn State, Miss. (June 12, 2013) – Alcorn State University has found an excellent way to make money on its obsolete and unused equipment by holding a property auction.
“We held our first auction in 2011, and it was a success with the proceeds amounting to almost sixty-four thousand dollars,” shared Jerry Sims, director of property at Alcorn. “The auction process provides a higher price for items than the traditional way of naming the price.”
Now, the University is in the process of preparing for its second auction scheduled for July 16, 2013.
“We asked the departments to submit a list of obsolete equipment and items they no longer use,” said Sims. “For example: lab equipment, vehicles, computers, office equipment, furniture, office supplies, hardware, lawn equipment, tractors, mower clippers and such. The departments will receive twenty-five percent of their sold items.”
The auction is open to the public with the exception of state employees.
