Alcorn's Greenfield speaks at Freedom Schools National Training
Alcorn State, Miss. (June 12, 2013) – Dr. Derek Greenfield, director of Educational Equity and Inclusion, recently served as a featured speaker at the Ella Baker Child Policy Training Institute National Training in Clinton, Tennessee, providing a dynamic presentation “The Power of YOUth!” to site coordinators.
The training prepares staff for the Freedom Schools project, an initiative of the Children’s Defense Fund, which operates summer literacy programs across the country in underserved communities.
Last year, Alcorn hosted its first Freedom School and will once again offer this powerful program from June 17 to July 26.
“As always, it is an honor to represent our great university,” said Greenfield. “I truly enjoyed speaking to an audience that cares so deeply about improving the lives of children.”
