Alcorn hires presidential ombudsman for Administrative Affairs

The Office of the President is pleased to announce the hiring of Mr. C. Rob Shorette II to the position of presidential ombudsman for administrative affairs.

In his capacity, Shorette is responsible for strategic planning, managing and contributing to the research being produced in the Office of the President, and serving as a liaison between the president and various constituencies on campus.

“Our major priority is to ensure that the strategic vision for Alcorn State University is captured in such a way that it can be communicated effectively and integrated into all aspects of university operations,” explained Shorette. “The idea is for a strong and comprehensive strategic vision to unite entities across campus in pursuit of achieving clearly defined outcomes, of which the success truly depends on the contributions of every member of the Alcorn community.”

Currently, Shorette is writing his dissertation in pursuit of a Ph.D. in Higher, Adult, and Lifelong Education at Michigan State University. His research focuses on HBCUs, diversity and equity in higher education, college access and success, and educational policy. In addition to his academic pursuits at Michigan State, he also worked in various roles for the university, including serving as site coordinator for the College Ambition Program that provided college-going support and subject-specific tutoring at a local high school, contributing to the delivery and assessment of campus-wide student service initiatives, and teaching an undergraduate course through the College of Education. Prior to arriving at Michigan State University in 2010, Shorette worked in student activities advising student organizations and providing leadership development opportunities for undergraduate students at The George Washington University in Washington, D.C., where he also received his Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration. Along with his institutional experience, he has worked with the Southern Education Foundation, the Institute for Higher Education Policy, the National Education Association, and taught and coached at the high school level. Mr. Shorette received his undergraduate education at Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, Florida, where he majored in English education, was a member of the football team, and was active in a number of student organizations. Shorette is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated.

“It is so exciting to become a member of the Alcorn family as I am extremely passionate about and believe in the work being done at HBCUs. And there is no better place to be right now than Alcorn – the 2012 HBCU of the Year with the 2013 HBCU Male President of the Year!” stated Shorette. “I look forward to learning from all of the amazing people on campus and contributing all that I can to advance Alcorn even further as a model of excellence in higher education. I’m honored and grateful to have the opportunity to become a part of this great team that has been assembled here at Alcorn.”
