SGA president chosen to introduce MS Representative Bennie Thompson
While completing his internship with the USDA this summer in Washington, D.C., Student Government President 2013-14 Avery Ford ’14 was asked to introduce Congressman Bennie Thompson at the USDA 1890 Task Force Meeting held July 25, 2013.
“It was a very humbling experience and an honor to introduce a representative from my home state,” expressed Ford. “It was also an honor to be in the midst of high ranking government officials, the Secretary of the Department of Agriculture Tom Vilsack along with the USDA 1890 Task Force.”
A Columbus, Mississippi native, Ford is an 1890s scholar majoring in agriculture economics. “Avery is an ambitious young man who’s very well spoken; so, it was no surprise that he received an invitation of this significance,” shared Student Engagement Director Devina Hogan. “I am very excited to see what he will bring to the campus in the upcoming academic year.”
Ford is polemarch for the Gamma Pi Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated, a member of the Agribusiness and Economics Club (ABEC), MANRRS, Sigma Tau Delta and an A.R.E.A.S. student ambassador. He is also the recipient of a full scholarship at Alcorn.
