Brave People, Go Green takes it to the next level, launches Bicycle Loan Program
Alcorn is moving forward with its Sustainability Program “Brave People, Go Green” after a successful launch in April of this year. On Thursday, September 26, the campus community came out and enjoyed free snacks and learned what can be done to contribute to a more eco-friendly society at Movie Night on the Green featuring “Peeples”.
On Friday, recycling bins were placed around the campus for students, employees and visitors to discard paper, aluminum and other recyclable materials. On-campus faculty and staff also have an opportunity to request a recycling bin for their residence.
In an effort to provide alternative transportation, Alcorn will implement its bicycle loan program on Monday, September 30, with bikes available to students. Rental locations will be Female Honors, Revels Hall and Building B in the Medgar Wiley Evers Heritage Village. See a residence hall assistant for rental information.
Other benefits of the sustainability program include plans to stop using styrofoam containers, encourage cleaning suppliers to provide more eco-friendly products, serve more locally grown fruit and vegetables on campus, use recyclable carpet materials and more.
