Alcorn holds annual Career Fair

The Office of Career Placement, Division of Student Success and Enrollment Management, sponsored its annual Career Fair on October 2, 2013.

The Career Fair brings together representatives from companies and organizations who are interested in sharing with students about job opportunities and holding interviews for entry-level positions.
“Recruiters spent the morning dialoging with students about prospects for furthering their career interests,” shared Dr. Valerie Thompson, assistant vice president for professional development/readiness. “During the evening session, several students interviewed with Cargill, an international producer and marketer of food, agricultural, financial and industrial products and services.”

Michael Hurns, a freshman, biology major, explained, “Even though I am only in my freshmen year, I was interested in attending the Fair and learning about careers that are available for biology majors.”

Sabrina Crosby, a senior majoring in elementary education stated, “The career fair was very beneficial and informative. It will help me achieve my future educational and career goals.”

Casey Mock, first year MBA student, spoke with several employers including the Mississippi Children’s Home Services, Department of Environmental Quality and Cargill to “find out about job openings for business majors and how to apply.”

According to Dr. Thompson, before interviewing with potential employers, students are encouraged to attend on-campus seminars designed to enhance interview techniques, review resumes for accuracy and to receive pointers on appropriate attire.

Upcoming recruitment sessions are scheduled as follows:
• Peace Corps – Wednesday, October 30, 2013, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the James L. Bolden Campus Union, Conference Room 1.
• Wal-Mart Distribution Center – Tuesday, November 12, 2013, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the James L. Bolden Campus Union, Multipurpose Room.
