Alcorn to hold annual Ag Day, help high school students discover agriculture

Alcorn State University will hold its annual Ag Day on Thursday, March 20, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Morris-Boykin Agriculture Science Building on the institution’s Lorman campus.

“Ag Day is a recruitment opportunity that provides high school students with valuable information about the numerous career opportunities and academic programs in agriculture,” explained Clifton Peters, USDA liaison at Alcorn.
The event allows high school students from across the state of Mississippi and for Alcorn students in the process of choosing or changing their major to interact with representatives from private companies and governmental agencies and to see the connection between academic preparation, personnel development and employment access.

“Our goal is for high school students to understand that agriculture is more than just farming,” Peters added. “It is a diverse industry where they can be very successful. There is a place for them here.”
