Alcorn to host an Ecology Education Workshop
Alcorn State University’s Department of Biological Sciences will host a K-12 Teacher Ecology Education workshop. The workshop is funded by a grant from the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) and will take place Saturday, June 28, 2014. Each participant will receive a stipend and earn a certificate of completion.
The purpose of the workshop is to present teachers with a comprehensive plan to integrate environmental science/ecology education into their respective existing curriculum and to increase the representation of African-Americans in ecology careers. Another goal is to build awareness by empowering educators with necessary knowledge of career opportunities and to encourage their students to explore the academic possibilities in the Department of Biological Sciences at Alcorn State University.
