Deja Harris enters second year as editor in chief of campus chronicle

As editor in chief of the Alcorn State University Campus Chronicle, junior and Jackson, Miss. native Deja Harris plans to resurrect the school’s online paper.

“It’s a good feeling to be in this position. I just want to bring the paper back to life. Hopefully, I can get it to where the student will enjoy seeing the stories published,” said Harris.

Harris is entering her second year in the head position of the student driven paper. Besides putting the paper together, Harris is also a writer, something she has done the majority of her college career. Harris’ passion for writing inspired her to try and lead the chronicle.

“I wanted to make the paper more interesting. I enjoy writing, so I wanted to contribute my input into what happens with the paper.”

Harris believes that good chemistry among the paper staff and advisors will create an atmosphere for success.

“I want to make sure that the paper staff works together. It is true that teamwork makes a dream work. We’re going to put all of our ideas together and make sure everything is flowing like it should.”

Harris and her staff have innovative plans that will make the paper appeal to the students.

“We’re planning to create a mobile application so that students can access from their smart phones because everyone is so tech savvy.”

Over the summer, Harris completed an internship at The Jackson Free Press. She took her newfound skills and applied them to the chronicle.

“This was my first internship and I learned a lot. It was a good experience.”
