Judith Rush’s new poetry book offers spirituality and encouragement

As a timid child growing up in Vicksburg, Miss., Judith Rush used her exceptional writing skills as a way of sharing her innermost feelings about life.

“I was always a shy and quiet child. Writing poetry was my way of expressing my emotions without receiving any negative feedback from others,” said Rush, who graduated from Alcorn State University in 1981.

Rush’s love for writing creative stanzas gave her the drive to pen and publish her first book, My Testimony of God’s Love and Mercy, which showcases her life story and how a higher power delivered her from different trials and tribulations. Rush credits that higher power for instilling the gift of writing in her.

“I believe God gave me this talent to share with the world. I love poetry. I feel as though it is a part of me just like my hand, arm and leg. It resides in my heart and soul.”

Writing poetry isn’t Rush’s only hobby. She also enjoys reading, dancing and singing. Her business, Read, Write, Relax and Exercise located in Vicksburg, Miss., offers reading, writing, meditation, exercise, childcare and voice lessons. Rush’s artistic ability gives her a serene feeling that puts her at ease.

“I love writing. Poetry gives me peace of mind. It calms my spirit.”

During her creative process, Rush makes sure to keep the reader’s attention by not being complicated and using a style that’s appealing.

“I keep it simple. I like to write with excitement and encouragement. I also like my writing to bring joy to the reader.”

Rush’s book can be purchased on Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble and Author House. Her business is located on 1901 North Frontage Road #2 in Vicksburg, Miss.
