Spreading Holiday Cheer: 2014 Toy Drive
Alcorn State University will be spreading cheer during the holiday season. The Department of Educational Equity and Inclusion is assisting Health Assurance, LLC (HALLC) and the Mississippi Department of Corrections with a “Christmas 2014 Toy Drive.” Toy donations will be accepted on the 5th floor of the Walter Washington Administration Building in Room 519A through December 11. The department will do a “Chimney Drop” for children with incarcerated women in surrounding communities.
“This effort is designed to give hope and purpose to the children as well as demonstrate our commitment of service to the communities,” said LLJuna Weir, director of Educational Equity and Inclusion and Title IX Coordinator.
Weir encourages all Alcorn departments to contribute to this cause so that the children can have a memorable Christmas.
“Our expectation is that all departments endorse this commitment of service to these communities and make Christmas more tangible for the children of the incarcerated."
Weir hopes that this special occasion will make a good impression on the kids as well as encourage them not to follow a troubled path.
“We anticipate touching hundreds of children and families during this first Chimney Drop for the encouragement of a new generation to avoid the mistakes of their parents.”
