The Department of Counseling and Testing Services welcomes Khary Ratliff to their staff
When Alcorn State University alumnus and Port Gibson, Miss. native Khary Ratliff saw the chance to work for his alma mater, he pounced on the opportunity.
“This is home for me,” said Ratliff. “I’m proud to be working here at Alcorn. Once I saw the opportunity to serve my community, it was an easy decision to apply.”
Ratliff is the newest substance abuse prevention coordinator in the Department of Counseling and Testing Services. His duties are working to reduce overall substance abuse and coordinate services utilizing existing community resources. His focus will be on early intervention in adolescents to prevent addiction.
Prior to his position at Alcorn, Ratliff worked for the Chickasaw Council, Boy Scouts of America in Memphis, Tenn. as a district executive. He was also employed by the Vicksburg Family Development Service, Inc. as a prevention specialist/program coordinator. Ratliff earned his bachelor’s degree in mass communications from Alcorn State University in 2007.
Ratliff’s new position will allow him to expand his knowledge to those at Alcorn.
“I’m excited for the opportunity to impart the knowledge I have gained in substance abuse prevention to the students and Alcorn communities.”
With his experience and knowledge in substance abuse prevention, Ratliff intends to bring more talent to what he considers a cohesive unit.
“I plan to use my knowledge in the area of prevention to enhance the Department of Counseling and Testing Services as much as possible. The strides to make a difference and improve have been set in place by the department prior to my arrival. My plan is to continue building on that foundation.”
