Alumni weekend to be held in conjunction with Commencement Exercises

Alcorn State University alumni will meet this weekend to catch up on old times during Commencement events.

Alcorn State University Alumni Reunion Weekend kicked off Thursday, May 7 with registration from 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Hampton Inn and Suites in Vicksburg, Miss. Later that day at 7 p.m., the Reunion Reception was held at the Battlefield Inn in Vicksburg.

Events will continue Friday, May 8 with the Business Meeting and Joint Class Reunion at 9 a.m. in the Ray E. Johnson Auditorium at the Agriculture Extension Building on Alcorn’s Lorman campus. A registration fee of $25 must be paid at 8 a.m. The fee will cover the luncheon that will follow at 12 p.m. in the Dr. Clinton Bristow Jr. Dinning Facility. A campus tour will began at 3 p.m. The Annual Alumni Awards Dinner & Hall of Honor Banquet will start at 7 p.m. at the Vicksburg Convention Center in Vicksburg, Miss. The 2015 Hall of Honor Inductees are Lettie Brox ’73, Grace Brown ’79, Samuel Washington Jr. ’89, Andrew Wilson ’80, Patricia Yates ’87 and Charles Johnson ’68. Attendees will be charged $60.

Alumni Reunion Weekend concludes with the 144th Commencement Exercise at 8:30 a.m. at the Davey L. Whitney HPER Complex. During this year’s Commencement, 75 Alcorn alumni will be honored for being apart of the Golden Class.

Janice Gibson, director of development and alumni affairs, is looking forward to the alumni festivities.

"Alumni Weekend is especially exciting," said Gibson. "I'm going to enjoy seeing the happy faces, hearing about the Alcorn of the past, and witnessing the alumni's commitment to the future of Alcorn through class gifts. I couldn't have asked for a better group of alumni to work with."
