Walk, Run or Ride with Alcorn this summer!

Alcorn State University School of Agriculture, Research, Extension and Applied Sciences invites the University and the community to come together for a “Walk, Run or Ride Summer Extravaganza” Saturday, August 29, on the Lorman campus. The event will kick off at 9:00 a.m. on the Jack Spinks/Marino Casem Stadium parking lot.

“The purpose of this event is to commemorate the 125
th anniversary of the signing of the second Morrill Act, the key piece of legislation that was instrumental in providing funding for state supported institutions of higher learning to impact the descendants of former slaves,” said Dr. Gregory Reed, assistant director for Extension and event chair. “The Morrill Land Grant Act of 1890, also known as the Agriculture
College Act of 1890, led to the creation of 17 historically black land-grant colleges.”

The participants are asked to donate $20 that will go toward providing scholarship to deserving students who are pursuing their educational goals at Alcorn State.

“The day will be filled with a variety of activities, food and fun,” added Dr. Reed. “All participants will have an opportunity to be a part of commemorative aerial photo.”

The program will include a 2-mile walking trail, 2.5-mile running course, bicycle, horse, and ATV trail rides that will take place on or close by the Lorman campus, and a caravan excursion for motorcycles, cars, vans and trucks through Fayette or Port Gibson, Mississippi. On the day of the event, persons may select which caravan excursion they wish to participant.
So, let’s lace up those walking and running shoes! Let’s tune up or vehicles, prep our bicycles, polish our motorcycles, water our horses, and rev up our ATVs, because we are going to have a grand time in the name of Alcorn State University! Remember to wear your Alcorn Purple!!!!
