Alcorn Extension hosts 2015 Holiday Affair Events
Alcorn State University Extension Program will host its 2015 Holiday Affair on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at 10 a.m. at the Claiborne County Multipurpose Building, 1703 Bridewell Lane, Port Gibson, MS.
The event will offer highlights and information on safety during the holidays, financial management, Alcorn State admission, as well as free giveaways and door prizes. It will include presenters from local law enforcement, extension staff and community leaders.
The event will have breakout sessions for high school juniors and seniors, as well as adults.
Sessions for the youth will be conducted by ASUEP staff Manola C. Erby, youth specialist, Ira Martin, Expanded Food and Nutrition Education (EFNEP) educator, and Shirley Middleton, Dr. Brenda Robinson, and Heather Brice, 4-H educators, along with Mississippi State University’s Extension Service staff Marilyn Gooden, family nutrition program assistant
Presentations for the adult session will be conducted by ASUEP staff Jarita Frazer-King, EFNEP educator, Valerie Wright and Jardana Brice, family and consumer science educators, along with Monica Beeman, Mississippi State University Extension Service family consumer science/4-H agent. Dr. Mattie Rasco, EFNEP/nutrition specialist/assistant professor at Alcorn, will conduct a food demonstration.
Port Gibson Police Department’s Chief of Police, Calvin Jackson, and Vicksburg Police Department’s Chief of Police, Walter Armstrong, will share information regarding holiday safety tips. Co-coordinator of the Vicksburg Mayoral Health Council, Gail Kavanaugh, will share information regarding family safety and budgeting during the holidays.
The event is free and open to the public. Lunch will be provided.
