Dina Scott nominated for LifeChanger of the Year award

Alcorn State University alumna and Port Gibson, Mississippi native Dina Scott is being recognized for playing a vital role in the Claiborne County School District.

Scott, a first-grade teacher at A. W. Watson Elementary School in Port Gibson, is nominated for the National Life Group LifeChanger of the Year award. The award recognizes full-time K-12 education professionals who make a positive difference in the lives of students.

When Scott found out about her nomination, she was overcome with emotions after realizing the positive influence she has had on her students and colleagues.

“I am honored to be a LifeChanger of the Year nominee,” said Scott, a 2001 and 2003 Alcorn State University elementary education graduate. “As I read through the comments that have been posted on the LifeChanger website about me, I became a little emotional because I didn’t realize that I’ve touched the lives of so many people.”

Scott loves education. She recently became a National Board Certified Teacher. She has also served as a grade level chairperson for a number of years. Because of her teaching prowess, she was named Star Teacher in 2006 and 2013. Although she plays multiple roles, teaching is her favorite.

“Teaching is my passion. I tend to bring a sense of fun, joy, and compassion to my students through my teaching methods. There is nothing like seeing the light bulb go off in my students’ heads after I’ve taught a skill. I also love the creativity and skill that teaching demands and the energy of the students.”

Scott hopes to keep influencing her students and peers with her commitment to education.

“I hope to continue inspiring my students as well as my colleagues by continuing to put forth my best and giving it my all. I hope that my enthusiasm is infectious to all that I encounter.”
