Dr. LaShawn Thompson selected as Academic Coach of the Game

The Alcorn State University Office of Academic Affairs and Department of Athletics recognized assistant professor of psychology, Dr. LaShawn Thompson, for contributing to the success of the university’s student-athletes.

Thompson received the Academic Coach of the Game recognition award Saturday, Feb. 13 during halftime of the Braves men’s basketball game against Mississippi Valley State University. Because of her success as a professor, she was nominated and selected by the student-athletes to win the award. Thompson was elated to know that her students appreciate her hard work and dedication to enhancing their minds.

“I was excited to receive the news that I was selected to receive the honor,” said Thompson. “It means so much to me because it comes from the students. I am here to teach and serve them and I am always honored when my students recognize efforts by the faculty and staff. I will continue to serve the students here at Alcorn State University.”

Thompson received a certificate from the Department of Athletics and a gift bag. Students from the Psychology Society, a student led campus organization that she advises, surprised her by giving her a hand painted canvas to commemorate the event.
