Alcorn to host Annual Multicultural Festival

It’s that time of year again! Time for the Alcorn State University annual Multicultural Festival, one of the biggest international and multicultural events at the University that celebrates the diverse cultures represented by Alcorn’s students, faculty and staff, as well as residents of surrounding communities.
The event, sponsored by the Office of Global Programs, will be held March 29, 2016 from 12:45 to 4 p.m. in the James L. Bolden Campus Union Ballroom.
“This year’s theme is ‘Dancing Together Under One Sky,’ says Peggi Wolfe, global programs specialist. “The festival highlights the importance of dance in cultures throughout the world. There will be performances, a fashion show, exhibits, displays and various international foods for the festival goers to enjoy!”
The International and Multicultural Student Organization, faculty and staff will begin the festival with a parade of flags commencing in front of the Office of Global Programs and ending at the James Bolden Union Ballroom. This year’s festival will highlight Latin America with keynote performances by La Quinta Del Lobo, a Columbian award-winning artist company.
The artists will present a program titled, Cuentos de la Mangleria (Mangrove Tales). In the performance, La Quinta del Lobo will explore their lasting memories, discuss myths, legends, dances and music. The performance will encompass a video and lights that will form luxurious, mutant and dynamic landscapes and scenarios. Following the performance, the La Quinta Del Lobo’s cast of artists will mingle with the audience.
Members of the audience will, also, be allowed to view exhibits, displays, and artifacts representing various countries and cultures.
The fun-filled festival is free and open to the public. In addition to the Office of Global Programs, the event is sponsored by the University Multicultural Festival Committee, International and Multicultural Student Organization and Mississippi Cultural Crossroads.
