CITS reads to students for Dr. Seuss Day
On Friday, March 4, staff members from the Alcorn State University Center for Information Technology Services (CITS) participated in the National Read Across America initiative, also known as Dr. Seuss Day, by reading to children at Kiddie Karousel Daycare Center in Fayette, Mississippi.
Donna Hayden, Sherry Carradine, and Felicia Harried each read Dr. Seuss books to different age groups at the daycare center.
“It’s always fun to see the kids get excited and participate in the storytelling,” said Carradine.
The CITS staff members are very engaged in community service individually and often support each other’s projects.
“We try to maintain a well-rounded family atmosphere,” said Donna Hayden, chief information officer at Alcorn. “When we work together on projects we are passionate about outside the workplace, I believe it strengthens teamwork and collaboration in the office.”
Kiddie Karousel Daycare Director Katherine Jones welcomes volunteers to come and read to the children or provide other educational enrichment.
The National Education Association's (NEA) Read Across America is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on March 2, the birthday of beloved children's author, Dr. Seuss.
