Alcorn Extension Hosts Another Giving Your Home Pizzazz Workshop
Twenty participants were shown in a two-hour workshop how to give their home pizzazz in a Make and Take, Do It Yourself demonstration workshop at the Jefferson County Multi-Purpose Building, Fayette, Mississippi.
Jardana Brice, Alcorn State University School of Agriculture, Research, Extension and Applied Sciences (AREAS) family and consumer science educator, served as the facilitator for the May 4, 2016 workshop.
“The Make and Take, Do It Yourself demonstration workshop was a huge success. During the workshop participants used their creativity to create beautiful plant planters that we call ‘pot people’,” says Brice.
All participants expressed their enthusiasm about learning how to create beautiful and economical home décor by shopping smart and using budgeting tips.
“They are looking forward to the next ‘economically savvy’ project to learn more ideas that would help them ‘give their homes pizzazz while they spend less cash”,’ added Brice.
The event offered financial management and budgeting tips on how to shop for economical items and craft materials that can be used to make beautiful decorations that add beauty to the home. The plant planters made during the workshop cost $12.00 to $15.00 to make. Similar “pot people” plant planters can be found on various decorating websites and can retail for as much as $60.00 and as less as $20.00. Making the planters yourself can lead to a $48.00 to $18.00 savings.
Following the workshop, participants shared decorating ideas and took photos of the “pot people” while they enjoyed refreshments.
Lela Shelvy and Jimmy Molphus, both volunteers, assisted the participants during the workshop.
