Youths in College! AREAS STEM Camps

Each year, Alcorn State University’s School of Agriculture, Research, Extension and Applied Sciences opens its doors to youth from both in- and out-of-state for fun and educational summer programs. The summer 2016 calendar includes two camps for children of various ages.

Advanced Technologies Summer Camp

Two Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Camps sponsored by the Department of Advanced Technologies for children entering grades 2-12 will be offered:

  • July 5-8 and
  • July 11-14, both on the Lorman campus.

The camps will offer educational, creative, and recreational activities. Students will be exposed to cutting-edge topics and provided practical training in the areas of:

· Computer Science

· Math, Chemistry and Physics

· Robotics

· Radiation Technology

· Electrical Engineering Technology

The camps will give students an opportunity to explore hands-on activities including nuclear and radiation technology, geographic information systems, digital communication, electronics, and computer technology.

The camps will, also, allow students to participate in technology and engineering, and expose them to a variety of STEM programs that they could pursue careers in. Admission to the camps are based on a first-come, first-served basis. Therefore, only the first 30 students of each camp will be allowed to participate.

The camps will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day while in session. The cost is $100 per student, per camp, per week.
