First and Second Year Experience Program holds Financial Literacy Workshop

On Wednesday, Nov. 2, the First and Second Year Experience Program held a Financial Literacy Workshop in the J.D. Boyd Medgar Wiley Evers Library Auditorium. This workshop was held to teach students how to budget while in college, and also how to borrow student loans wisely.

This workshop included students from the university life classes. The guest speaker for this event was Jamie Smith, associate director of Financial Aid.

“It is important that you avoid the temptation to borrow more money than you need while attending college,” said Smith.

Smith also spoke about the dangers of accumulating bad credit at a young age. He encouraged the students to be wise in their financial decision-making.

“So many college graduates are in debt because of the financial mistakes they made while in college. I learned at a young age that credit cards and bad financial decisions will hurt you in the long run.”
