Alcorn’s Mississippi Professional Educators Chapter do community service in Fayette

Alcorn State University’s Mississippi Professional Educators chapter decided to give to the students of Jefferson County Elementary School.

After spending the semester collecting school supplies for third graders at the school, the chapter delivered the items to the school Friday, March 3. Members of the chapter are currently completing practicum clinical hours at the school.

Dr. LaShundia Carson, director for the Office of Student Teaching and Field Experiences in Alcorn’s Department of Education and Psychology, showed pride in her student’s charitable initiative.

“The MPE Chapter members did another outstanding job,” said Carson. “Over the last two months, the members posted signs and collected the donations from various people. The members were very excited about presenting the school supplies to third graders at Jefferson County Elementary School.”

Jernisha Thomas, a senior elementary education major, gained joy from contributing to the educational well being of the students

“My experience was wonderful,” said Jernisha. “Being able to put a smile on the faces of the students meant a lot to me. It was a great and thoughtful event, and I’m honored to have been a part of it.”
