Warren Gatewood to host inaugural youth football camp
Former Alcorn State University Braves football standout Warren Gatewood will pass along his expertise to the next generation of players with his upcoming camp.
The inaugural Warren Gatewood Football Camp will be held Saturday, July 29 at Natchez High School, located on 319 Prentiss Drive in Natchez, Mississippi. The camp will offer competitive and intense physical and mental training at various offensive and defensive positions.
Registration will begin at 8 a.m. for students age 5-13 and will resume at noon for students age 14-19. The first camp participation session, which will be for the 5-13 age group, will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. The second session, which will be for the 14-19 age group, will be from noon to 4 p.m. Participants should bring their own football cleats and shorts. The camp fee is $30.
After interacting with some of the state’s most talented young football players, Gatewood was motivated to set out on a journey that would prepare the players for future success on the gridiron.
“If I can tap into the large talent pool in Mississippi and expose them to the fundamentals and nuances of the game, I believe it would make a significant difference in their skillset,” said Gatewood. “I have been playing organized football since the age of five, and that has helped me tremendously.”
With the camp, Gatewood plans to teach lessons that the participants can use to be the best at their positions on the field. He hopes that the players will apply the same principles of discipline to other areas of their lives to achieve maximum results.
“Through football, the camp will teach the participants how to handle success and adversity. They will learn that success doesn’t come easy, and they will have to develop habits of doing their absolute best to reach their full potential.”
Gatewood hopes to become a mentor in the lives of the camp participants. He’s looking forward to hosting future football camps in other locations.
