Alcorn’s Career Services will host 2017 Career Exploration Week in September

Alcorn State University’s Director of Career Services, Dr. Joey Mitchell, stated that Career Exploration Week will provide students with the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with prospective employers, while obtaining the soft skills needed to be successful.

This year’s Career Exploration Week will kick of Tuesday, Sept. 5 with Mock Interviews in the Campus Union from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Students will also engage in a SCI Mixer with a guest speaker in the Campus Union Ballroom from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. On Wednesday, Sept. 6, there will be a Graduate and Professional School Expo in the Campus Union Ball Room from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.

On Thursday, Sept. 7, the events will include a Career Fair/ Business Photo Booth from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Campus Union Ball Room as well as a Business Industry Cluster Luncheon from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Clinton Bristow Jr. Dining Facility Gold Room. Career and Exploration week will conclude Friday, Sept. 8 in the Ray Johnson Auditorium with a Youth and Motivational Task Force that will be held from 10 a.m. to noon.

Mitchell intends for students to establish points of contact with potential employers/graduate schools, identify the soft and hard skills needed to be successful and take advantage of opportunities to identify their careers.

Mitchell emphasized that it is essentially important for students to take advantage of Mock interviews, where they will gain real life feedback from employers on their responses.

Career Exploration Week has been held over the past years at Alcorn and has helped students gain access to various career opportunities.
