Freshmen cabinet, Tyric James and Chelsey Page, explain their goals for their first year at Alcorn
Freshmen class cabinet campaigning at Alcorn State University started immediately after they made it onto campus last Friday. The class wasted no time determining who would lead them in their first year of college.
Tyric James was elected freshman class president, while Chelsey Page was voted Miss Freshman for the 2017-2018 school year. Both have multiple plans about how to make their first year very memorable for the class of 2021.
“We plan to have a Freshman Friday, which will consist of fun events for our classmates. We’ll have things like mechanical bulls, jump houses, slip n’ slides and of course food. We also want to raise Breast Cancer Awareness,” said Tyric.
Tyric and Chelsey are also in sync with doing community service with high school students called “Motivation Graduation,” an initiative that will give them a chance to speak to students about the importance of graduation. They will also talk about their freshman experience at Alcorn. Chelsey is interested in motivating young women and possibly hosting sleepovers with the young women of her class.
“I want to pay more attention to females so that they can focus on their goals because there are a lot of distractions,” Chelsey said.
Tyric and Chelsey have fundraisers planned that will allow them to execute their plans. They plan to put their initiatives into action by October.
Their most important goal is to encourage growth amongst their classmates by motivating them to get involved in different organizations on campus.
