Alcorn Extension Program Plans Activities during the Mississippi State Fair
The Alcorn State University Extension Program will once again be a part of the annual Mississippi State Fair, October 4-15, according to Manola Erby, ASUEP 4-H youth specialist.
Gerald Jones, director of county operations, Claiborne County Extension Office, serves as the Mississippi State Fair ASUEP chair.
The state fair will be held at the Mississippi Fairgrounds Complex in Jackson, Mississippi.
Below is a listing of activities scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the following dates:
• Oct. 5
Topic: "Nutrition Day" – Dr. Mattie Rasco (FCS, Nutrition & EFNEP)
Topic: "Syrup Processing Day" – Ralph Arrington, area agricultural educator and the Mississippi Syrup Producers and Processing Association
• Oct. 6
Topic: "Ag Day" – Ralph Arrington, area agricultural educator
• Oct. 7
Topic: "Health and Fitness Day"- Jacqueline Ford, program field coordinator
• Oct. 8
No activity or demonstration – Country Outlet will be open.
• Oct. 9
Topic: "Visual Direct Marketing using S.A.P.S." (Simple Attractive Packaging Sales) Fresh Product Value added- Helen Brooks, agriculture marketing specialist and Percy Baldwin, facility manager
• Oct. 10
Topic: Purple & Gold Day at the Fair Distribution of admission and careers Agriculture – Mrs. Manola Erby, Youth Specialist & Carolyn Banks, agribusiness management specialist
• Oct. 11
Topic: "Unique & Affordable Home Decorations" – Jardana Brice, family and consumer sciences educator
• Oct. 12
Topic: "Clonal Propagation of Fruit Crops" – Dr. Girish K.S. Panicker, director, Center for Conservation Research

Topic: "Syrup Processing Day" – Ralph Arrington & Mississippi Syrup Producers and Processing Association Syrup Association
