Braves away game against Texas Southern to be played on stadium video board

Can’t make it to Texas to watch the Braves football game this weekend? No need to worry; Alcorn has you covered.

The Alcorn State University Braves football team’s matchup against the Texas Southern University Tigers Friday, Sept. 29 will be aired on the video board at Jack Spinks Stadium-Marino Casem Field at 8 p.m. Doors will open at 7 p.m., and admission is free. Refreshments will be served during the game.

Emanuel Barnes, vice president for the Division of Student Affairs, along with the Student Government Association (SGA), conceived the idea. He said that using the video board to broadcast the game provides the opportunity for students to cheer on the Braves during their off game.

“I thought that it would be a good use of the board and entertaining for the students,” said Barnes. “Opening the stadium doors up to them on a Friday evening not only gives them something to do, but it also gives them the opportunity to support the Braves while they compete on the road.”

Patrick Herbert, SGA president, appreciates the Division of Student Affairs for reaching out for a collaboration project that will encourage bonding amongst the student body.

“I think it was a wonderful gesture to include the student body in this event,” said Herbert. “SGA is looking for this event to be a success and if so, we plan to host more events in the stadium to increase weekend engagement with the student body, whether it is streaming a live Alcorn football game or hosting movie nights.”

Be sure to join in on the action and support the Braves!
