Freshmen at Alcorn reflect on their first Homecoming experience

Now that Homecoming 2017 is a thing of the past, freshmen at Alcorn State University took a moment to recount some of their top highlights from their first college Homecoming experience.

This year’s festivities included a pool party, the 71 Jump Street Block Party, Karaoke Night, the annual Step Show, Coronation, a concert and the Homecoming Parade. The Braves football team put a stamp on Homecoming 2017 by defeating Prairie View A&M 34-21.

With so many events and moments to choose from, the freshmen carefully selected which events were the best. For Kayla Small, being amongst friends during Saturday’s parade and game were the top moments for her.

“I really enjoyed the tailgating and the post-game after party,” Small said. “Game day was the day on campus to not miss because of the parade and one of the best games of the year.”

Miss Freshman, Chelsey Paige, also enjoyed her first Alcorn’s homecoming. She looked back on how much fun she had with her friends during the block party.

“I really enjoyed 71 Jump Street! It was a great opportunity to become familiar with other organizations, raise money for the Student Government Association and party with the DJ’s and my fellow Alcornites,” Paige said.

The step show succeeded in being one of the most entertaining events of the week. The audience sat in awe as they watched their favorite sororities and fraternities step across the stage in the E.E. Simmons Gymnasium. Cheerleader Tyrah Ray said that she had a great time.

“I loved the step show! My favorite part was seeing all of them strolling around the gym before the show started,” said Ray

Overall, the freshmen were more than satisfied with their experience, and they look forward to more wonderful experiences in their college journeys.
