ASU Foundation Manager receives certificate in non-profit management from the University of Texas
Casey Mock, the finance and accounting manager for the ASU Foundation, Inc., recently received a certificate in nonprofit management through the University of Texas at Austin. Upon completion of the program, Mock received certification along with individual certifications for each of the 12 units the program covered. The program was comprised of units including the following: Budgeting in a Nonprofit Organization, Fundraising for Nonprofit Organizations, Nonprofit Financial Statements, Leadership in a Nonprofit Organization, Nonprofit Board and Volunteer Development, Marketing for Nonprofit Organizations, Strategy for Nonprofit Organizations, Capital Campaigns, Introduction to Grant Writing, and Social Media for Nonprofits.
Mock was motivated to pursue a certificate because the ASU Foundation is a nonprofit organization; therefore, he is always looking for opportunities to gain a better understanding of the best practices in nonprofits, specifically educational nonprofits. Mock stated, "I can then use that knowledge to improve our operations and procedures at the ASU Foundation."
Mock plans to use the knowledge and skills gained from the program to implement new practices and improve current procedures to strengthen the ASU Foundation financially and structurally. With these new skills, Mock will be able to enhance the educational and professional experiences of Alcorn's students, faculty, and staff.
Mock said he would recommend this program to anyone who works with a nonprofit organization or wishes to gain a greater understanding of the purposes and functions of nonprofit organizations.
