Alcorn mourns the passing of Coach Herman Williamson
Coach Herman Williamson, who served in Alcorn State University’s Department of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation (HPER), died Saturday, April 17.
Known as Coach Herm, Williamson was an assistant and head track & field coach, head women’s bowling coach, and instructor. Williamson’s tenure began in 1999.
He earned a master’s degree in health & physical education from Alcorn in 2002, and a bachelor’s degree in industrial technology from Mississippi Valley State University in 1992.
Dr. Johnny Thomas, HPER chairperson and associate professor, remembers Williamson as a person who was dedicated to serving his students, peers, and the University.
“Throughout his years in these positions at Alcorn, he touched so many lives of students, coaches, colleagues, and people in the community,” said Thomas. “Track and field were in his DNA, and he had an absolute commitment to all students, his players, and Alcorn.”
Funeral services are pending and will be announced at a later date.
