Alcorn’s Extension Program gears up for annual Small Farmer’s Conference
The Alcorn State University Extension Program, in partnership with the Mississippi Association of Cooperatives, is hosting its annual meeting to empower farmers across Mississippi.
The 31st Annual Small Farmer’s Conference will be held Monday, Sept. 19, through Wednesday, Sept. 21, at the Lake Terrance Convention Center in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. The conference’s theme is “Rooted in Foundation: Building A Legacy For Family Farms In The South.” Dr. Chavonda Jacobs-Young, undersecretary and chief scientist with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) in Washington, D.C., will be the keynote speaker.
The conference provides educational sessions and two agricultural learning sites, including a beef cattle certification course and value-added vegetable processing. A Women in Business session will highlight entrepreneurs in various enterprises.
Gerald Jones, director of County Operations, spoke about the conference and how helpful it would be to all farmers.
“This major event allows us to connect with new and beginning farmers,” said Jones. “It is our hope and goal that each participant gains valuable knowledge during this conference.”
