Alcorn’s Career Closet provides professional attire for students

Students looking for professional clothing have a resource on campus to fulfill their needs.

The Career Closet, operated by the Office of Career Services and Pre-Professional Programs at Alcorn State University, is located on the second floor of the James L. Bolden Student Union. Alcorn alumni donate new clothing to the Career Closet. Career Services also use funds donated to the Career Closet to provide more clothing for its students.

Michael Harper, a career specialist with the Office of Career Services and Pre-Professional Programs, believes the closet is an asset for the University, as several students come onto campus without professional clothing.

“Many students come to campus without business attire,” said Harper. “The Career Closet satisfies this need. This closet also serves as a learning experience. It allows us to assist students with professionally styling an outfit and choosing their correct size for a presentable fit.”

Harper’s goal is to ensure students leave the Career Closet satisfied and presentable.

“Showing up looking like you belong is important when walking into an interview. We ensure our students look the part and have what they need to secure the bag. We assist students with their clothing needs without them having to leave campus.”
