Upward Bound ends summer with educational trip to Houston
The Upward Bound program at Alcorn State University ended its Six Week Summer Residential Phase by visiting Houston, Texas. The students arrived on July 17, 2023, and enjoyed a weeklong educational and cultural experience.
Upward Bound is a pre-college preparatory program funded by the U.S. Department of Education. The program is designed to motivate underachieving students by developing their basic skills to enable them to complete high school and make a successful transition into postsecondary education.
“We really appreciate all of the parents who allowed their children to participate this summer, and we encourage more parents to consider signing their scholars up as well,” said Kenneth White, interim director.
Students visited and toured Prairie View A&M University and Texas Southern University campuses and made visits to various fun and educational sites such as the Houston Zoo, Houston Interactive Aquarium and Animal Preserve, Houston Holocaust Museum, Houston Museum of Natural Science and Cockrell Butterfly Center, and finally the Houston Space Center.
They also enjoyed a fun day at the Galveston Pier.
