Alcorn State University will hold its Fall Commencement Ceremony on the Lorman campus on Thursday, December 11 at 9 a.m.

The university will present the Student Award of Excellence during the ceremony and honor members of the Silver Class of 2000 in recognition of 25 years since they earned their degrees.

Daryl Hammett, an Alcorn alumnus and director of global delivery for AI platforms and security at Amazon Web Services, will deliver the commencement address.

In his current role at AWS, Hammett leads seven teams focused on delivery, product solutions, innovations and security operations. He also serves as a certified business and executive coach, supporting Amazon leaders across the organization.

Hammett previously served as director of global demand for machine learning, artificial intelligence and operations at AWS, where he oversaw seven global sub-teams and four functional teams.

His career spans decades in global operations, supply chain management and technology leadership. He has held executive positions at Coupa Software as vice president of global solutions and at ConnXus as chief operations officer, chief technology officer and general manager. At Luxottica, he served as senior vice president and general manager, overseeing a billion-dollar brand’s sales, marketing, operations, logistics and product development.

The Cincinnati Business Courier recognized Hammett as a top chief operating officer.

He completed the CEO Academy at the Wharton School of Business and holds certifications in supply chain management, third-party risk management and intelligent software automation.
