Alcorn State University’s School of Nursing has secured two top state and national recognitions for 2026.

The Online Nursing Post-Master’s Graduate Certificate program was ranked No. 2 in Mississippi by RegisteredNursing.org.

The Nurse Practitioner program was named the No. 6 Historically Black College and University (HBCU) Nurse Practitioner program by NursePractitionerOnline.com.

The rankings highlight the program’s commitment to preparing graduates for advanced roles in healthcare.

Dr. Shirley Evers-Manly, dean of the School of Nursing, said the recognition affirms the university’s mission.

“We are deeply honored that our Nurse Practitioner program has been ranked the number six HBCU,” said Evers-Manly. “This recognition is a powerful affirmation of Alcorn State University’s mission and the School of Nursing’s long-standing commitment to excellence in advanced practice education.”

Evers-Manly noted that graduates are prepared to reduce healthcare disparities.

“Our Advanced Practice Nurses are uniquely prepared not only to deliver high-quality, evidence-based care, but also to lead efforts to reduce healthcare disparities in the communities we serve,” said Evers-Manly.

The organizations determine rankings by analyzing current and historical data to identify programs that best support students toward licensure.

“This ranking reflects the dedication, resilience, and hard work of our faculty and students, who show every day what it means to combine academic rigor with a true Brave heart for service,” said Evers-Manly.
