Camariyah Butler, a STEM Master of Business Administration graduate from Leland, Miss., made history on Thursday, Dec. 11, as the program’s first-ever graduate. Following this milestone, Butler accepted a full-time position with Klynveld Peat Marwick Goerdeler (KPMG).

Butler secured the role with the Big Four accounting firm following the completion of an internship in summer 2025. KPMG is a leading professional services network offering audit, tax and advisory services worldwide.

Butler, who was drawn to the problem-solving and analytical side of accounting, said the STEM-focused MBA program strengthened her ability to interpret data and apply technological skills to business decision-making. She credits the university’s rigorous coursework for preparing her for the expectations of the firm.

“The program challenged me to think strategically, manage complex workloads and stay adaptable, which are skills that mirror the fast-paced and high-expectation culture at firms like KPMG,” said Butler. “I had opportunities to work on real-world projects, collaborate with diverse teams and present technical information clearly, which boosted both my confidence and communication skills.”

Butler’s decision to accept the full-time offer was influenced heavily by her internship experience. She credited the supportive and collaborative culture at KPMG for providing the space for interns to grow in the workplace.

“Everyone was willing to teach, answer questions and help me grow,” said Butler. “Being trusted with real responsibilities showed me the firm invests in their interns and genuinely wants us to succeed. That confirmed that this is the type of place where I can build a long-term career.”

As she transitions into her new role, Butler plans to continue her professional development and prepare for the CPA exam. She views the certification process as an investment in her future and a foundation for the type of accountant she aims to become.

“I’m not just taking the CPA to check a box — I want to feel confident in the work that I do and know that I can stand behind my decisions,” she said. “Professionally, I hope to make an impact by being the kind of person clients and teammates can depend on.”
