Ms. Mary Marie Trimble, program director, appreciated the hard work the students put into their projects and the great parent turnout. “From the quality of the work it was obvious that our students received that important element—parental support,” said Ms. Trimble. “We feel that all of our students are winners at Saturday Science Academy. We wish them success as they present at their respective schools and hopefully they will continue on track to the regional, state, and even the national fairs.”
Saturday Science Academy is funded by a Federal Title III grant from the US Department of Education and is one of many successful projects of Alcorn State University’s outreach initiative, serving the middle school students of Jefferson and Claiborne Counties. Over 150 students of 5th through 9th grades enroll each year to enjoy state-of-the-art lab facilities with hands-on lessons taught by expert teachers and university faculty and students.
