The head football coach will be responsible for the overall management of Alcorn’s football program, which encompasses, but is not limited to directing a staff of assistant coaches, coordinators, trainers, and student support personnel who have specific responsibility for offense, defense, linebackers, quarterbacks, receivers, etc.
The head football coach must also establish a strong relationship between the University and the community; develop student athletes mentally, physically, and emotionally; effectively manage all operational, fiscal, and administrative activities; and, perform other related duties as assigned by the director of intercollegiate athletics and/or the president.
Alcorn’s Human Resources Department must receive complete application packets prior to 12 noon CST on March 19, 2012. The Screening Committee will receive all completed packets on March 21 and will evaluate packets based on a scoring rubric. The scoring rubric will determine the top three to five candidates to advance to the interview process. The Screening Committee will elect the Interview Committee comprised of one representative from each of the sub-groups.
The Interview Committee will conduct reference checks and formally interview the applicants and recommend two to three preferred candidates unranked to the president for final decision.
Transparency is key to finding the best candidate, said President Brown. When describing the ideal candidate he said, “Alcorn prefers an individual with a master’s degree, comprehensive knowledge of NCAA and SWAC regulations, and proven recruitment experience in Mississippi and the south who demonstrates the University’s commitment to knowledge and character. I would particularly like an individual with Division I coaching experience outside of the SWAC conference with a team that has enjoyed post-season play.”
