ASU to offer graduate degree in applied science and technology
The Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL) of Mississippi recently approved a new Master of Science in Applied Science and Technology Program in the Department of Advanced Technologies, School of Agriculture, Research, Extension, and Applied Sciences (AREAS) at Alcorn State University, according to Dr. Kwabena Agyepong, department chair.
“The approval will permit students currently enrolled at Alcorn State to be trained in any of the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) area undergraduate programs to obtain a technical master’s level degree,” Dr. Agyepong said. “The program is designed to enable a dual-degree to be earned in five years comprised of a bachelor’s degree in a technical area and a master’s in applied science and technology.”
“ASU will provide access to technical graduate work in southwest Mississippi and the rural counties served. This program will meet the need to develop more community college teachers in the applied sciences and technology with master’s degrees to meet a growing demand at colleges and institutions,” he said. “Weekend, evening, and online course delivery, similar to the Master of Science in Workforce Education and Leadership Program will be used to reach more prospective applied science teachers statewide. “
Funds to assist with curriculum development of this program were allocated by the federal government.
