Advanced Technologies student receives scholarship from Washington D.C. Metropolitan Area Alumni Chapter
Recently, Shalotta E. Jones, a junior majoring in advanced technologies with a concentration in electro-mechanical engineering technology, was selected as the 2012 – 2013 recipient of the Sadie Pettigrew Gadberry Scholarship award sponsored by the Alcorn State University Alumni Association, Washington D.C. Metropolitan Area Chapter. On October 2, Alcorn President M. Christopher Brown II presented Shalotta with a $1,000 check and the award certificate signed by Chapter President Samuel L. Washington Jr.
“I am so thankful to have been selected to receive this scholarship,” said Shalotta in her conversation with Mr. Washington who visited the University during Homecoming week. “This money will definitely help me with my school expenses next semester.”
An Upper Marlboro, Maryland, native, Jones said that she enjoys her tenure at Alcorn and thinks she made a good decision when she chose to come to Alcorn to continue her family tradition, “It was easy to make up my mind, I knew a lot about Alcorn before I even got here. My mother YuLanda Robinson ’82 and other family members who are Alcornites told me all of the good things about the school.”
A talented scholar, Jones is a member of the Ecology Club on campus. She wants to work as construction engineer upon graduation.
