Alcorn receives grant to support healthy student development

Alcorn State University has been awarded a $7500 grant from the competitive HBCU-CFE mini-grant program sponsored by the Morehouse School of Medicine to continue the highly successful “Journey of Understanding Project” launched last year.

This innovative initiative will engage student leaders in developing and implementing an experiential activity in spring 2013 to raise awareness of behavioral health issues among students on campus, with a special focus this year on healthy relationships.

Dr. Martha Ravola, associate professor of Human Sciences, and Dr. Derek Greenfield, director of Educational Equity and Inclusion, will serve as co-project directors for the grant. Ms. Dyann Moses, director of Counseling and Testing, and Mr. Alfred Galtney, post award programs manager, will also provide support for the project as well.

“We are excited that Alcorn is once again a recipient of this grant,” stated Dr. Greenfield. “We look forward to delivering a unique program that emphasizes positive peer-oriented approaches to promoting healthy lifestyles.”
