Homecoming 2012
Even the rain couldn’t wash away the Braves spirit as Alcorn family and friends gathered together to celebrate the University’s legacy during Homecoming 2012.
This year’s homecoming week opened on Sunday, September 23, with the annual gospel concert, continuing into the week with lively class events, featuring Memphis’ Beale Street replication, much anticipated fashion, mid-night breakfast and welcome-back party.
On Thursday, September 27, the University honored its founding at the 2012 Founders Day Convocation. President Brown presided over the convocation and presented the annual Founders’ Day Awards. Ambassador of the Republic of Liberia to the United States of America Jeremiah C. Sulunteh served as the keynote speaker.
The traditional Friday events included pep rally and Greek Step Show. The culmination of the festivities on Saturday, September 29, was celebrated with the big parade, football game and “Beneath the Shade” Homecoming concert that featured Lenny Williams, Midnight Star and Sheba Potts Wright. The eventful week closed with Homecoming Unity Worship Service on Sunday, September 30, where representatives of campus Greek organizations, Alcorn students, faculty, staff and community members gathered in the Oakland Memorial Chapel to listen to words of wisdom by Reverend Dr. Isiac Jackson Jr. ’73.
The Homecoming week is over, but the good news is that the football season is in full swing and Alcorn is inviting its family and friends back to campus as it hosts three more home games on October 6, November 10 and 17. The football season t-shirt “GEAUX Braves” is on sale by the ASU Foundation. Call 601-877-6296 and purchase your t-shirt today to benefit student scholarship and support the Braves spirit.
