Alcorn State, Miss. (January 25, 2013) – The Council of Engineering Deans of Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Lockheed Martin Corporation and US Black Engineer and Information Technology magazine has selected Alcorn alumna Michelle Wynter, a researcher at the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) in Vicksburg, Mississippi, as a Science Spectrum Trailblazer for 2012. Wynter will be recognized for her achievements at a luncheon during the 2013 Black Engineer of the Year (BEYA) Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) conference, scheduled for February 7-9, 2013, in Washington, D.C.

Wynter received a bachelor’s degree in biology from Alcorn State University in 2000, followed in 2002 by her master’s degree in biology education. She has been selected for long-term training for the 2013/2014 academic year and will attend Louisiana State University to pursue a doctorate in agronomy. In addition to her role as a research biologist, Wynter enjoys spending time with her husband Gary, photography, traveling and volunteering with her church.
