Alcorn Technology Center reschedules cyberbullying seminar

The cyberbullying seminar has been rescheduled by the Alcorn Technology Center to Thursday, May 16, 2013, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., 300 Franklin Street in Natchez, Mississippi. Chance McDavid, Regional Broadband Education coordinator, Mississippi State University Extension Service, will serve as the presenter.

“The seminar’s goal is to inform adults about cyberbullying. It is a critical topic to understand for children, parents, teachers, and anyone in charge of children that use or have access to the Internet,” shared Allen Terrell, manager of the Alcorn Technology Center in Natchez. “The ramifications of cyberbullying can often go undetected until it is too late to offer assistance to the person being bullied. reports that only 1 in 10 victims will inform a parent or trusted adult of their abuse. The worst fact reported by is that bullying victims are 2 to 9 times more likely to consider committing suicide. So, it is important for parents and teachers to be able to identify possible abuse and know what actions to take. This seminar will help the participants to learn about warning signs that they should watch for, learn about possible consequences for cyberbullies and how to protect against it.”
