Alcorn holds Teacher Recruitment Day aimed at helping graduating seniors find employment
Alcorn State University Career Services recently held its annual Teacher Recruitment Day to provide graduating education majors an opportunity to network with representatives of the surrounding school districts at one place and time. This year, the seniors met with representatives of 19 school districts in the James L. Bolden Campus Union Ballroom.
Dr. Jan Duncan, director of student teaching and field experiences, School of Education and Psychology, stated, “The event gave students an opportunity to interview with perspective employers within various school districts for certified classroom teacher and administrative positions. From interacting with recruiters, our students learned what kind of professional experiences they need to gain to be marketable candidates for the positions.”
“Before coming to the event, we researched the districts that interested us,” said Heather Franklin, elementary education major from Brookhaven, Mississippi. “We spoke with representatives of the schools where we think our career can thrive, and where we can make a contribution.”
Joshua West, health and physical education major from Natchez, Mississippi, came to the Teacher Recruitment Day to meet with representatives of the schools that have strong physical education programs. “I am glad that I attended. After I interviewed, I received several job offers from schools.”
Airnecia Mills, Miss Alcorn 2012-13, shared that upon graduation she would like to go back home, to Greenville: “I had a chance to interview and apply in the Greenville Public School District to teach kindergarten to first grade students. I am so excited!”
