Alcorn hosts Awards and Closing Program for U.S. Virgin Islands Summer Camp
The U.S. Virgin Islands and Alcorn State Agriculture Experience Summer Camp participants, faculty, staff and guests gathered in the Ray Johnson Assembly Center, Extension and Research Complex, on July 26 for the Camp’s Awards and Closing Program.
Dr. Louis E. Petersen Jr., commissioner of agriculture, U.S. Virgin Islands, addressed the guests and the participants of the Agriculture Experience Camp that ran from June 30 until July 26.
“The high school students and teachers from the U.S. Virgin Islands had a wonderful educational experience concerning career and educational opportunities in the food and agricultural sciences,” said Dr. Daniel Collins, department of agriculture chair and professor of plant pathology. “The students have truly enjoyed this experience. They have been exposed to all facets of our agricultural production system ‘From the Farm to the Table’ and interacted with farmers, scientists and professionals working on the frontlines of global food security. The students have also been provided exciting hands-on experiential learning opportunities that Alcorn State University offers in fulfilling its land-grant mission of agricultural research, extension and education.”
The audience also enjoyed a wonderful program put together by the students that showed off their educational experiences acquired this summer.
