Alcorn State, Miss. (September 16, 2013) – A record crowd of over 2,500 participants attended Alcorn State University High School and Community College Day 2013 on Saturday, September 14. High school students and their parents from all over the state of Mississippi, Alabama and Tennessee came to Alcorn to experience what the University has to offer to its perspective students.

The day began the students and their parents reviewing displays from each academic department, support services and Greek organizations. Administrators, faculty, staff and students were on hand to answer all questions concerning admission, scholarships, financial aid, academic programs, extracurricular activities and residential life.

The program continued with a general assembly presided by Admissions Director Katangelia Tenner. Dr. Carl Cunningham, Alcorn’s new vice president for Student Success and Enrollment Management greeted the audience, “On behalf of the “Alcorn Family”, its students, faculty, and staff, welcome to the historic campus of Alcorn State University, a premier land-grant institution and 2012 HBCU of the Year!” Following Dr. Cunningham’s greeting, Carmen Gibson, Miss Alcorn State University 2013-14, and Avery Ford, SGA President 2013-14 introduced the members of Alcorn’s Student Government Association. The entertainment was provided by DJ T-Money, Alcorn State University cheerleaders, Sounds of Dyn-O-Mite drumline, Greek organizations, and Alcorn students and employees.
