Alcorn’s English professor receives Humanities Teacher Award
Dr. Murray Shugars, an associate professor in the Department of English and Foreign Languages at Alcorn State University, received the 2013 Humanities Teacher Award by the Mississippi Humanities Council for his work in the area of humanities.
In recognition of this honor, Shugars will present a discussion of poetry and poetics Tuesday, October 29, 2013, at 1:15 p.m. in the Ray Johnson Assembly Center on the Lorman campus.
Shugars earned a doctorate degree in contemporary poetry and poetics from Purdue University and has published two collections of poems, “Songs My Mother Never Taught Me” (2011) and “Snakebit Kudzu” (2013), both with Dos Madres Press. His presentation will include a reading of his own work and that of others. A reception will follow.
