Alcorn will host the Houston Honors Fundraising Reception that will recognize their Texas connections in business, community, professional achievement, and philanthropy Friday, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. at the Sheraton Suites Galleria Ballroom in Houston, Texas. The event’s purpose is to garner support of alumni, friends, corporations, and foundations for Alcorn student athletes and its athletic programs. The event will include awards presentations to the honorees.
Houston natives Alvin King and Intensity featuring Amber Nicole from “The Voice” will provide splendid entertainment and guests will enjoy great Texas cuisine.
The honorees will be: Mr. Willie Alexander, Dr. Renwick Chestang, Dr. Barbara Sias Chinn, Attorney Ollie Ruth Jefferson, Dr. Wright Lassiter Jr., Dr. Robert and Mrs. Theresa Prater, Mr. Donald and Mrs. Beatrice Sowell, Atmos Energy Corporation, Farm Credit Bank of Texas and Madison Charitable Foundation. Alcorn alum and Canadian Football League (CFL) player with the BC Lions Emanuel Arceneaux will serve as the master of ceremony for the event.
The event will be held in conjunction with the Alcorn State University Braves football team representing the Eastern Division in this year’s Southwestern Athletic conference (SWAC) championship game Saturday, Dec. 6 at NRG Stadium.
Alcorn’s Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Derek Horne is excited about the opportunity to raise funds for the betterment of Alcorn’s student athletes and athletic departments.
“The Houston Honors reception is about securing those necessary funds to support the young men and women who come to Alcorn committed to studying and representing the university by playing sports,” said Horne. “This really is an opportunity for all Alcornites, friends and fans who believe in their alma mater to give to help all of our student athletes reach the next level.”
The Alcorn State University Foundation, Inc., a 501 © (3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to aid Alcorn in promoting developing and expanding and facilitating studies, research, and other academic pursuits, will receive donations.
